News and Notes – 8/28/16

Where did that summer go? It seems that it was just a few days ago that we were breaking down the photo contest display at Bellevue University. Now here we are, a few weeks away from our first meeting of the club calendar year.

The Club Board members met a few weeks ago and we’ve put together a schedule for the year that we hope will be fun, informative and have something for everyone. I’ll have the website calendar updated soon so keep an eye out for it.

Sept 15th Meeting – Forest Shoot at 6:30 pm / Best Photos of the Summer at 7:30 pm

Our first meeting of the year on Thursday, September 15th will start off with a photo shoot in the forest near the Nature Center. Members are encouraged to come to the Forest at 6:30 pm to shoot the various plants, flowers and birds around the Nature Center. Then at 7:30 pm will we begin our meeting inside the Nature Center.

You’ve all been out and about this summer! Let’s see what you’ve shot. For our first meeting, we will have a slideshow of our best photos of the summer. Send your top 3 or 4 photos of the summer to me at the e-mail address. Photos should be sized to 2000 pixels on the long edge and the resolution set to 72 ppi. If you have difficulty re-sizing them, just send them as is.

Also, yearly club dues are due at the September meeting. The dues remain the same, $12 for an individual or $20 per family and you must be a  Fontenelle Forest member.

Photo Displays

We will be collecting photos in September for our photo displays in the Nature Center and the Bellevue Library. The subjects for the September photos are:

  • City Skylines
  • Rows – any images depicting row-like patterns

In November we will be collecting photos of leaves and fountains.

Please remember to add your name, the subject and the location on the back of each photo you submit. The photos can be 8×10, 8×12 or 11×14. No mattes or frames please.

Leadership Changes

As you may remember, after Heather Ingraham resigned as our Secretary, Tracy Utter volunteered to take her place. As it turned out, Tracy’s schedule changed this summer so she will not be able to attend meetings regularly. This being the case, Eric Scholar, a longtime member of the club, graciously volunteered to take over the Secretary duties.

Also, after having been a longtime club member and Photo Contest Coordinator, Doug French has decided to pursue other interests and will no longer be attending the meetings. The Board asked Donna Gray to take over the responsibilities of the Photo Contest Coordinator and she was kind enough to accept.

A huge thanks to both Eric and Donna for taking an active role in our club. The success of our club depends on folks like Donna and Eric and all of the others board members and coordinators. Your service is much appreciated!

Photography outings outside of our regularly scheduled meeting times seem to be something that many of us are interested in. They are a great opportunity for sharing ideas, learning from each other and camaraderie. So if you have an idea for an outing, whether it be a few hours shooting something local, or a multi-day trip like shooting the Sandhill Crane migration, and you are willing to coordinate the trip, please let a board member know! If you put the plan together, we’ll help you promote it. So bring your ideas and let’s get out and shoot!

Please let me know if there are any questions. Otherwise, we’ll see you at the Nature Center on Thursday, Sept 15th!
