It’s been a while since my last entry. We’ve got lots to cover so let’s get started!
Congratulations to Our Contest Winners
I wanted to take a moment to congratulate all of this year’s photo contest winners. We had excellent participation this year with 102 submissions and I can honestly say this year’s judge really had a challenge selecting winners from all of the great entries.
A big thanks to Tim White for taking the time to judge the contest and providing the critique. As photographers, we can only improve by knowing what we need to improve upon. Though it is great fun to have our photos recognized in a contest, in my opinion one of the best benefits to all of the participants is receiving an honest critique of their photos. Tim White’s experienced and constructive criticism was certainly a highlight of the event.
The contest would not have been the success it was without all of those who assisted in the coordination and set up, most notably Doug French. Thanks Doug for putting on another great event for us!
I have posted the winning photos that I have received so far on our website. If you do not see your photo in the slideshow on the site home page, please send them to me via the firstname.lastname@example.org e-mail.
Focus on Omaha Fall Convention
For those of you who attended our June meeting, you heard our guest judge, Tim White, speak about the upcoming photography convention that will take place on September 18-19. The Focus on Omaha Fall Convention will be an opportunity for local photographers to take in educational seminars, participate in interesting photography field trips, and mix and mingle with other area photographers. Lonny Holman – Mr. February!
I’m happy to announce that our own Lonny Holman recently had a photo selected by Northwoods Falconry, a falconry outfitter business, for their annual calendar. Lonny’s photograph of a wild osprey will be the February 2016 image. If you wish to purchase the calendar, please visit https://northwoodsfalconry.com/products-page/books/raptor-conservation-education-calendar/.
Lonny also let us know that he is moving away this summer. I’ve really enjoyed watching Lonny’s photography improve over the last couple of years. We will miss Lonny’s great HDR and nature photos. Best of luck to you, Lonny!
I wanted to take a moment to thank Allen Kurth for leading the club as President over the last year. We had a great year filled with very interesting and educational meetings. Thanks for serving the club Allen!
We also should thank all of the board members you voted to keep their positions as well as our key contributors. Alan Brodin, Heather Ingraham, Kathleen Rose-Crawford, Doug French and Judy Dye have given their time and effort to ensure that we continue to have a great club and I am grateful to them for their service.
I am looking forward to serving the club as its President and continuing to serve as the Webmaster. This club has been instrumental in making me, and many others, better photographers in a fun and entertaining ways. My hope is that with everyone’s support and participation we can continue to make this a great club.
The Board will be meeting next week to plan the agenda for the upcoming club year. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to comment on this blog post or send me your comments via the firstname.lastname@example.org e-mail.
Have a happy and healthy summer! We’ll see you all in September!
