Minutes of the Fontenelle Forest Photo Club Meeting, Oct. 20,2016

President Pete Carbonell called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. About 25  members were in attendance.

PRESIDENTS REMARKS:

Pete mentioned that Donna Gray will take over the photo contest next year. He also mentioned that the club is looking for a judge for the contest and anybody with suggestions should let him know.

Pete also mentioned that Kate Murphy of FF will be organizing a great American Solar Eclipse event next year. She would like to have someone give a presentation on how to photograph the eclipse and anybody interested who has experience should let Pete know.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

TREASURER’S REPORT- Kathleen Rose

Kathleen gave the Treasurer’s report and mentioned that there was about $1550 in the treasury. She also mentioned that in Dec we will have our annual slide show and pot luck dinner.  The club will provide meat and drinks and everybody should bring a side dish. She is circulating a sign up sheet for this event.

Judy also urged everyone to pick up their photos from previous exhibits.

OCTOBER PROGRAM: TRAVELLING WITH PHOTOGEAR BY AIR—Presented by Pete Carbonell

Pete mentioned the following points:

First check the airline for regulations escpecially about size requirements for gear brought on the airline.

He mentioned that it is best to carry on gear if possible.

Expensive gear should be insured.

Expensive equipment should be carried on.

Pete discussed the different types of camera bags that are useful to bring along on your trip.

He mentioned the importance of a tripod; he talked briefly about the Gorillapod and its usefulness.

He mentioned it is very useful to make lists of items to bring.

Alex Wiles of Fontenelle Forest who has extensively traveled and photographed then talked about his travel bags and equipment he brings along and how it is packed. He emphasized the importance of dealing with humidity in warm climates. ( zip lock bags and dessicants).

He also mentioned the usefulness’s of pouches and rain sleeves

Next meeting is on Thursday November 17th at 7 pm in the Fontenelle Forest Nature Center. Alex Wiles will provide a presentation on being a free lance nature photojournalist. 

Meeting was adjourned at about 8:20 P.M.
