President Pete Carbonell called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. About 34 members were in attendance.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pete mentioned that FF is looking for someone to give a presentation in August of next year on photographing the solar eclipse. Anyone interested should contact Pete at the webmaster@fontenelleforestphotoclub.org email.
Alan Brodin, the club V.P., mentioned to Pete that he has been contacted by the Professional Photographers of Iowa. They are interested in collaborating with us on several aspects of photography including joint outings and programs.
Pete mentioned that the Forest would not like the club (or any club) to bring popcorn as a treat in the future.
Treasurer’s Report – Kathleen Rose
Kathleen said that there was about $1600 in the treasury.
She also mentioned that in our December meeting we will have our annual slide show and potluck dinner. The club will provide chicken and drinks and everybody should bring a side dish. She circulated a sign-up sheet for this event. Everyone interested should send 3 or 4 photos to Pete via the webmaster@fontenelleforestphotoclub.org email address to be used in the annual Christmas slide show.

NOVEMBER PROGRAM
Alex Wiles presented a talk on his journey to becoming a free lance environmental photojournalist.
Alex’s main interest is in reptiles and presently as a conservation photographer. He has worked as a zookeeper, animal keeper at the forest and as an educator. He is a conservationist at heart but in the last few years has gotten into photography seriously.
He has photographed in many countries now including Iceland, Costa Rica, Peru, New Zealand and Togo, and has several photography publications including three in NebraskaLand magazine. He has recently gotten into underwater photography. He talked about how to submit work for publication. He gave several tips on this subject including
- Be patient
- Have a well-rounded project
- Content is king
- Don’t let lack of expensive equipment set you back
- Don’t rush initial pitch
- Have a peer review your work
- Be prepared for rejection.
He finished up by mentioning he is organizing a trip to Costa Rica through the Omaha Audubon Society. Anyone interested should contact him for details at www.awilesphoto.com or audubonomaha@gmail.com.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, December 15th at 7 pm in the Fontenelle Forest Nature Center.
