31 members attend this month’s meeting.
Club VP, Alan Brodin, gave a presentation on night photography.
The following topics were discussed at the beginning of the meeting:
Wetlands Photo Walk
On May 16th, Club President, Allen Kurth, will be leading a photo walk in the Wetlands area of Fontenelle Forest. Anyone interested in participating should meet on the patio of the Wetlands Learning Center at 2pm. Here’s a map to the Wetlands Learning Center, in case you’re not familiar with the location.
Night Photography Photo Walk
The Night Photography photo walk had been scheduled for Saturday, April 18th but due to the rain, it has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd at 8pm at Neale Woods. For all of the details on this on this photo walk, please see Neale Woods Night Photography blog post.
Executive Committee Elections
Executive Committee elections will be held during our June 18th meeting. We are still looking for candidates, especially for the President, VP and Secretary positions. The success of our club depends on the participation of our members so please consider running for one of the positions. For more information on the positions and their responsibilities, see the “Wanted! Executive Committee Candidates” blog post.
Fontenelle Forest Photo Club Contest
The 2015 Annual Fontenelle Forest Photography Club Photo Contest is coming up in May and we would love to have 100% participation. The contest is not only great way to share your favorite pictures, but it is a chance to view your fellow club members images. Also, the critique of all the entries, provided by this year’s contest judge, Tim White, is a great opportunity to get honest feedback and tips on how to become a better photographer.
Submissions and the show set up is on 5/30 at 10am. The critique and awards will be done during our regular meeting on 6/18 which will be held at the Bellevue University Gallery in the Humanities Building. Photos will be taken down on Saturday, 6/27. Here’s a link to all of the contest information and rules.
To go along with our theme for the month, Judy Dye will be collecting night/darkness and landscape photos at the May and June meetings for the displays in the Nature Center and the Bellevue Library. As usual, the photos can be 8×10, 8×12 or 11×14. No mattes or frames please. Please include your name, location and subject on the back of the photo.
Our next meeting will be held, as usual, in the Fontenelle Forest Nature Center. This meeting is a special treat as the Fontenelle Forest Raptor Recovery organization will have live raptors on display for club members to photograph. Last year we had a variety of owls available. This year they will bring in a variety of hawks and falcons.
In the past, the Raptor Recovery group has provided us this service as a courtesy to the club. To show our gratitude the club board decided to use our funds to donate $200 to Raptor Recovery.
This is always a great opportunity learn about these fascinating animals while photographing these beautiful subjects. So come prepared with your photo gear and enjoy!
