I have received a request for five to six volunteer photographers to shoot the “Out of the Darkness Walk” for the Omaha Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 1:oo PM. According to their web site . . .
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.
They are looking for basic event photos. There is an opening ceremony, then the walk and then a closing ceremony. There is a mini-balloon launch too. The walk starts out by Gallup on Abbot Drive. The photos will be used on some of the literature for the Omaha AFSP chapter and in some of the flyers used for future walks, parades etc. Some photos are also used on the AFSP/Out of the Darkness website. In addition, they put some of the photos on Facebook (especially the team photos) so that FB followers can view them.
Registration for the walk starts at 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 15. The walk officially starts at 2:00 and goes for a couple of hours. Volunteers should arrive at 1:00 and photograph the opening ceremony and the walk itself. According to my contact, Cindy, the pictures get emotional because the topic of the event is sad. In spite of the sad subject matter, people usually do not mind being in the pictures because they want to get the word out.
If you would like to volunteer to shoot this event, please contact Frank Comisar by private e-mail no later than 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 8th. I will pass contact info of volunteers to Cindy so she can coordinate the group.
