June Meeting Minutes

37 members were in attendance.

The Fontenelle Forest raptor center will open July 15th for members and July 16th to the public.

If you have suggestions or criticisms to help determine the programming beginning in September, please email them to Pete.

Please keep the photo displays in mind while you are out with your camera this summer.  The photos due in September are rows of things and city skylines.  The photos due in November are leaves and fountains.

Congratulations to Tracy Utter who has agreed to be the club’s secretary beginning in September.

Thank you to Doug French for all of his work preparing this year’s photo contest and critique.

Saturday, June 25th, please meet and the Bellevue University Humanities building at 10:00AM to pick up your contest entries.  If you are unable to make it, please contact Doug French to make other arrangements.

Scott Papek, a self-taught fine art photographer served as judge for the evening offering critiques and praise.  If you are ever in the area of Westroads Mall, please stop by and check out his photo gallery.

The results of the contest will be announced in a later post.

June Photo Club Meeting & Contest Reminder – June 16th

Our next meeting is Thursday, June 16th at 7 pm. It will be held at the Bellevue University Hitchcock Humanities Building Auditorium. Before the meeting, club members will have the opportunity to place their vote for the Members Choice Award. So if you can, please arrive early in order to take the time you need to vote for your favorite photo.

The meeting will consist of the awards presentation along with a critique of every photo submission by our judge, fine art photographer, Scott Papek. You can visit Scott’s website, http://www.papekphotography.com, to learn more about him.

April Meeting Minutes

Jenny Nguyen, Associate Editor from NEBRASKALAND MAGAZINE spoke about magazine photography. She discussed her favorite locations and subjects to photograph in Nebraska. She also discussed the process of getting a story published in a magazine, including pitching ideas, photo selection, writing and editing.

Our next meeting will be a wetlands photography outing. We will meet at the wetlands near Fontenelle Forest for a brief meeting and then we will begin photographing the area. After the meeting, please email your best 1-2 photos to the webmaster and they will be added to the club’s website.

As a reminder the categories are flora, fauna, landscape and anything goes. The awards and critique will also be the library at Bellevue University on Thursday June 16th at 7pm. The judge, Scott Papek, will critique the photos as they are projected on screen during the meeting.

The date to remove your photos is June 25th.

March Meeting Reminder March 17th 7:00 @ Fontenelle Forest

On Thursday, March 17th our photography club will be joining Fontenelle Forest’s Bird Club and the Audubon Society of Omaha for a presentation by Denver Holt about Snowy Owls.

Denver Holt is the founder and president of the Owl Research Institute and the Ninepipes Wildlife Research Center, a nonprofit organization located in Charlo, Montana. His award-winning work has been published by National Geographic magazine and featured in documentaries around the world.

Scott Papek will be the judge for the 2016 photo contest. Some of you may remember him since he gave a presentation at a photo club meeting in 2014. He also has a photography gallery in Westroads Mall.

During the remainder of the meeting, Pete gave a very informative presentation on Lightroom.

Our next meeting will be March 17th. We will be sharing the meeting with the Fontenelle Forest Bird Club and the Omaha Audubon Society. There will be several people in attendance so arrive early to get a great seat. Denver Holt, a well-known snowy owl researcher will be speaking at the meeting.

The next meeting will be Thursday February 18th at 7pm at the Fonentelle Forest Nature Center. Pete and Doug will be giving a presentation on Lightroom. If you have Lightroom loaded on your laptop, feel free to bring it to the meeting and follow along.

January 21st Meeting Reminder

Our next club meeting will be this Thursday, January 21st at 7:00 PM.

This meeting will consist of short presentations by 4-5 members on their favorite photo destinations.

After our meeting we will be conducting a swap meet. This will be a great opportunity for us bring out cameras, lenses, gadgets, gizmos, books and/or magazines that have been gathering dust and either sell, trade and give them away to anyone interested in trying something new or different. So bring in a box full of items and a pocket full of cash and let’s have some fun. Just remember you have to take home whatever you don’t get rid of.

Judy Dye will be collecting photos at our next meeting for our displays at the Forest and the Bellevue Library. For February/March displays we are looking for images of church windows or images with white subjects, i.e. clouds, snow, white birds, etc…  Subjects for April/May displays will be neon signs and canines (wild or domestic). Please remember to add your name, the subject and location on the back of each photo you submit. The photos can be 8×10, 8×12 or 11×14. No mattes or frames please.

December 17th Meeting Minutes

The meeting began with a potluck dinner and was followed up with a member slideshow.

Judy reminded everyone that prints for displays are needed. We are collecting photos for February/March and April/May displays. Subjects for the February/March displays are church windows and anything white, i.e. snow, clouds, white birds, etc… Subjects for the April and May are neon signs and canines (wild or domestic). Remember to add your name, subject and location of photograph to the back of the print.

The meeting concluded with a drawing for gift cards to Rockbrook Camera.

Meeting Reminder for Next Thursday

Thursday, December 17th at 7:00PM will be our holiday potluck and members slide show. The club will provide the meat and non-alcohol drinks. Members who have not yet signed up with their potluck side dish should RSVP to Kathleen (katcr@cox.net) by December 14th.

For the slideshow, members should email three of their favorite shots of the year to webmaster Pete Carbonell at webmaster@fontenelleforestphotoclub.org. The photos should be 2000 pixels on the long edge with a resolution of 72 ppi

Prints for display at the Forest and the Bellevue Library are needed. At the next meeting we will be collecting photos for February/March and April/May displays. Subjects for the February/March displays are church windows and anything white, i.e. snow, clouds, white birds, etc… Subjects for the April and May are neon signs and canines (wild or domestic). We’d love to see everyone participate in this activity. It is a great way to practice our skills and show the people in the community what our club is about.
