Give me a day or two to get them all on the site.
Please post on the website and email members that the deadline for submitting photos for the contest is Friday, August 21. Please get your photos submitted to me at email@example.com!!Our judge is going to be out of town several days before the contest so it is necessary to get him the photos as soon as possible to make his job easier.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Donna sent this in…
Please post on the website and email this out to the membership to send me their full size files, after post processing, and I will resize (only) if necessary. They are coming in, in all sizes, and I don’t want anyone’s photo to be overlooked because it is so small on a view screen.
Email the photo files to: firstname.lastname@example.org

Re: 2020 “DIGITAL” Photo Contest
From: Donna Gray, Contest Coordinator
Bellevue University has decided to NOT open the Humanities Building in August and is undecided for future months. The Fontenelle Forest Photography Club’s board has decided to have a digital contest this year due to Covid-19.
We will be using the same rules for categories that were in effect last year.
“Novice Class”: This is open to club members who have NOT won a first, second or third place in any individual category, or Overall Show award in prior years’ photography club shows.
“Advanced Class”: This is open to club members who have won a first, second or third place in any individual category, or an overall show award in the prior years’ photography club shows.
- Scenic/Landscape: Continental US, outside continental US, any nature themed image where the focus or subject IS NOT manmade objects, including urban, city, pets, and Humans. Must be a nature-based photo taken by a club member.
- Animals: Any living creature, wild or domesticated, including pets. Not humans.
- Flora: A photo where the following are the main subject of the photo. Any flower, plant, fungi or tree.
- Anything Goes: (Combined category – Novice & Advanced)
Any photograph not meeting the requirements of the 3 categories listed above. Also, any photo that is over enhanced or un-naturally manipulated will be entered into this category.
Members may enter four photos in any of the usual categories. Please forward your photos to me in jpg (jpeg) format. Don’t worry about file size. I will take care of any resizing that needs to be done. If you don’t know how to convert to a jpg (jpeg) file, just email what you have, and I will convert as needed. Please have your photos to me by August 21, 2020. Email them to me at email@example.com
There are two ways to let me know the information needed for the contest – depending on the level of your computer skills. If you are not familiar with how to rename a jpg file, simply type the category name, whether you are entering as a Novice or Advanced, the title of the photo and if it was taken at Fontenelle Forest as part of the email. Make sure your name is also included in case it is not part of the email address.
For those who are comfortable renaming files, I have a code that will shorten everything and hopefully, make it easier for you…….and me ! After each letter group, put a comma to separate them. And again, please make sure your name is included in the email. If after reading the code, you feel it is too cumbersome, just follow the instructions in the preceding paragraph.
A – Advanced
N – Novice
FL – Flora
SC – Scenic
AN – Animals
ANY – Anything Goes
FF – Taken at Fontenelle Forest
If you are entering a photo of a bird, taken in Fontenelle Forest, and you are a novice photographer…..
Original file name: img_1234.jpg
Contest file name: N,AN,FF,Happy Robin.jpg
First letter – Advanced or Novice Photographer
Second Group – Category – Flora, Scenic, Animals, Anything Goes
Third Group – Taken in Fontenelle Forest (Used only when photo is taken in Fontenelle Forest)
Fourth Group – Title of photo
I will be responsible for everything to do with getting your photos to the judge and getting the results. Phil will eventually be putting the photos on the website so everyone can see them. At this point, I have no idea if a critique will be possible due to restrictions at Fontenelle Forest on the number of people who can be in attendance.
Please keep in mind, as far as I know, a digital contest is a first for our club. It is definitely a learning process for me, and I suspect for a lot of the members. Ask questions if you have them and be patient with those of us who are attempting to get it right!
The Bellevue University has cancelled all events for the Humanities Building for the month of August. This means we will not be able to hang our photos at the university. It is unknown at this time what September will be like. Details are being discussed on how to do an online contest on our website. In the meantime I suggest you get your , up to four, photos ready to send in. More info and instructions to come!
Eric Scolar has also walked the trails at the Fontenelle Forest. Here are a couple of photos from him.
A Bug’s Life
Please check out Gallery>Under the Microscope> Duane Vosika. Duane submitted a macro photograph for our comments, critiques…etc. It is a pretty impressive shot, called A Bug’s Life. You can click on Duane’s name also. Check it out.
Kathleen Crawford-Rose has coordinated with the Forest for our upcoming meetings. Doors open at 6:30 PM and meeting starts at 7:00 PM.
Photo Club does plan to meet and
I gave Barb S. our times and dates earlier this summer. She mentioned that there would be some necessary changes in entering the building, etc. We understand that plans may have to be changed as needed.
At this time we are waiting to hear from Bellevue University about the art gallery where we usually have our annual contest displayed. If they open it back up we may be able to have our contest there in September.
Our 2020-21 meetings at Fontenelle Forest are planned for 6:30 through 9:00 pm on the third Thursdays.
Club members appreciate our relationship with Fontenelle Forest and want to assist when we can.
Steve Carson sends these two shots of Neowise. He is using a photo stacking software program. Steve has agreed to give us some instruction on how to use programs like this to enhance our ability to photograph the night sky. He will be our speaker at the October 15th meeting.
Donna Gray and Kathleen Crawford-Rose submitted these photos from a walk through Fontenelle Forest. Kathleen says; “The Joe Pie Weed is at its peak and loaded with butterflies. A really nice place is at the top of Hawthorn Trail. The prairie at Camp Brewster is also starting to bloom nicely. ” Thanks Donna and Kathleen.
