Minutes of the Fontenelle Forest Photo Club Meeting, Nov.17,2016

President Pete Carbonell called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. About 30 members were in attendance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pete mentioned that if you have trouble reading last month’s minutes on the club website, refreshing the browser will correct that problem.

He also mentioned that the influx of warm weather is resulting in the arrival of eagles at Lake Manawa and Sandhill Cranes in Kearney. These are good photo opportunities.

Donna Gray reported on the upcoming photo contest. Pat Mingarelli will be the judge. Submissions are due the end of May in the Humanities Building at Bellevue University. Awards will be recognized at the June meeting. The rules are online.

Pete mentioned that candidates are wanted for the election in May, especially for president.

Pete Gentes mentioned that he has photo laser paper available for anyone who may want it.

Rich Ryan mentioned that in today’s Omaha World Herald there was an article on the Great Backyard Bird Count. The article emphasized Kathleen and Bob Rose’s yard and the large number of feeders they have.

TREASURERS REPORT – Kathleen Rose

Kathleen said that there was about $1700 in the treasury.  Some people still owe dues.

FEBRUARY PROGRAM: Tim Wright of Timmy’s Treehouse printing studio.

Tim Wright was the featured speaker. He does all types of photography printing.

Tim first talked about his background. He is a native Omahan who has been in other states and a couple of years ago moved back to Omaha. He has always liked photography specializing in thunderstorms and lightning. His family has owned a printing company for many years and now Tim has taken it over from his dad.

Tim specializes in Prints, E-mounts, canvases and acrylics. He emphasized that he is very willing to work with the photographer to satisfy  any concerns and wants.

Tim mentioned that he could print right off the memory card. The photographer can go to Tim’s website and order. The image can be emailed to Tim. He recommends that the photographer use a jpg or a tiff file format if you have opened or closed the file a lot.  He prefers a size of 300 ppi.

Tim also showed some of his own work which included printing out on animal shapes, photos of 93 Nebraska counties and some canvas prints.

February 2017 – Meeting Reminder

Just a few quick notes as we get ready for our February meeting which you will not want to miss!

Our February meeting will be this Thursday, 2/16 at 7 pm. We will be meeting as usual in the Fontenelle Forest Nature Center Forest Room.

This month’s presenter will be Tim Wright of Timmy’s Treehouse Print Studio. Tim will talk and take questions on all facets of photo printing. There is so much to printing than most people realize so get your questions ready and show up for what will be a very interesting and informative presentation!

We are also still collecting photos for our photo displays. The subjects for February are Frozen and Red. The next subject for May will be Graffiti and Flowers. Remember to add your name, the subject and the location on the back of each photo you submit. The photos can be 8×10, 8×12 or 11×14. No mattes or frames please.

With the weather warming up, there are plenty of opportunities to get out and shoot. I’m sure we are all itching to get out so if anyone is interested in leading an excursion over an upcoming weekend, please let me know during the meeting. It would be a great opportunity for the members to get out and learn from each other!

Fontenelle Forest Photography Club

Minutes of the Fontenelle Forest Photo Club Meeting, Jan 19th, 2017

President Peter Carbonell called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. About 18 members were in attendance.

Announcements

  • The Omaha Audubon Society, with the help of Alex Wiles, is organizing a guided trip in Costa Rica from May 27th to June 3rd. The $2100 cost of the trip covers hotels, ground transportation, all meals, travel insurance and guides. If anyone is interested they can speak to Alex at our next meeting.
  • The annual Photo Club Photography Contest is coming up. Donna Gray is the Contest Coordinator this year. Set up will be on Saturday, May 27th at 10 am at the Bellevue University Humanities Building. Our June meeting will be held in the Bellevue University Humanities Building auditorium. During the meeting the contest winners will be announced and our judge will provide a critique of every photo submitted. The contest will be then be taken down at 10 am on Saturday June 24th.   • It was also mentioned during the meeting that if anyone is interested in entering other contests, they should check out the various state fairs. Many state fairs have photography contests and accept entries from individuals that aren’t residents from that state.
  • Photo Display – Judy is currently collecting photos for the February display. Subjects for February are red and frozen. The next photo collection will be in May and the subjects for that month will be graffiti and flowers.

Remember to add your name, the subject and the location on the back of each photo you submit. The photos can be 8×10, 8×12 or 11×14. No mattes or frames please.

  • Dues – If you have not done so already, please pay your club dues at the next meeting. Club dues are $20 for a family or $12 for an individual.
  • Free classes at Rockbrook Camera – The Rockbrook Camera Legacy Store will be holding free mini-classes every Saturday mornings at 9 am to 9:45 am from January 28th to March 18th. For more information, click here.

Presentation – Photography Tips & Tricks by Peter Carbonell

  • A presentation was provided to the group regarding several topics that should be of interest to all photographers. We discussed the effects of lens filters, JPEG vs Raw file formats and how to read a histogram.

Next Meeting

Our next club meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16th at 7 pm at the Fontenelle Forest Nature Center. For our presentation we will have a visit from Tim Wright of Timmy’s Treehouse Print Studio. Tim will talk to the group all about photo printing and the printing business. It should be a very informative & interesting meeting!
